Tim Samaras
Bennett, Colorado
- May 31, 2013

Well-known storm chaser Tim Samaras, 54, was killed while chasing a tornado in El Reno, Oklahoma.  His son Carl, 24, and their colleague Paul Young, 45, were also killed.

Their vehicle was destroyed on May 31, 2013 by an EF-3 tornado as they attempted to get information on the storm.  Their storm chasing was the subject of the Discovery Channel's StormChaser series, which ran for five seasons.

The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma said it believed the deaths were the first time scientific researchers were killed while chasing tornadoes.

The Discovery Channel has more information, as well as a photo gallery.

Tim's QRZ.com page also gives more personal information on him and his life.
